The Digital Leadership Program is a skills‑training initiative designed to support newcomer women in developing digital competencies, leadership capacity, and sector‑relevant workplace skills. The Language Instructor plays a key role in supporting newcomer women to develop strong workplace communication and leadership skills. The programming will be delivered in a hybrid format, with some components online and others delivered in the classroom.
This is a part-time contract position scheduled to work 5 hours per week, for 8 weeks over 5 cohorts from April 6, 2026, to March 31, 2027.( Tuesday and Thursday mornings, 9:30 A.M. to 12:00 P.M.)
DUTIES
- Design and deliver modules focused on
- Sector-specific language development
- Workplace communication skills (email writing, meetings, presentations)
- Leadership and advocacy skills relevant to newcomer women
- Use culturally responsive and trauma-informed teaching methods to support diverse learners.
- Facilitate group discussions, public speaking workshops, and collaborative learning activities.
- Provide individualized feedback and ongoing language support based on learner needs and goals.
- Support the integration of leadership content into capstone projects, mentor sessions, and collaborative assignments.
- Develop lesson plans and create task-based, level appropriate materials aligned with the Canadian Language Benchmarks.
- Conduct ongoing needs assessments and adjust instruction accordingly.
- Provide computer-assisted instruction using digital learning tools and MS Office programs.
- Integrate online learning platforms or other digital tools into instructional delivery.
- Maintain attendance records and all required documentation.
- Organize special events that enhance learner engagement and cultural experience.
- Assist with outreach activities to support learner recruitment as required.
- Report to the Program Manager, sharing updates, concerns, and instructional insights.
QUALIFICATIONS
- TESL Ontario certificate from an accredited institution recognized by TESL Ontario.
- Minimum 3 years of experience teaching English as a Second Language to adult newcomers.
- Preference will be given to candidates with experience teaching employment-related language training to CLB level 4+ learners.
- Understanding of and experience using the Revised Canadian Language Benchmarks 2012.
- Previous experience providing online facilitation or online course delivery. Ability to provide technical troubleshooting will be considered an asset.
- Experience providing adult instruction using learning software as well as Microsoft Word, Excel, email, and the Internet.
- Ability to adapt teaching methodology to the needs/skill levels of individual learners.
- Excellent English communication and interpersonal skills.
- Experience working in a multicultural environment.
- Demonstrated sensitivity to the needs of adult immigrants and refugees.
- Ability to work independently with excellent organizational and time management skills.
