Outreach and Community Facilitator

Contract Full-Time 12-months 

Barbra Schlifer Commemorative Clinic offers trauma-informed legal services and representation, counselling and multilingual interpretation, and drives system transformation to support women and gender-diverse people who have experienced violence. Rooted in the foundations of intersectionality, innovation, and a client-centered approach, we foster the skills and resilience of the people we serve and amplify their voices to create individual and collective change. 

The Clinic’s Legal Department provides services in family and immigration law, and independent legal advice to survivors of sexual assault, through a collaborative team of lawyers, Family Court Support Workers and administrative staff. The Clinic’s legal services are part of a wrap-around service model, assisting with emotional, financial and social stability for clients and their children. The Legal Department also supports the Clinic’s advocacy efforts to bring systemic change and reduce barriers to justice for survivors of gender-based violence.    

We are seeking an Outreach and Community Facilitator with experience in feminist legal advocacy and gender-based violence within the intersecting context of family law, immigration law, and sexual violence for a full-time, 1-year contract with a possibility of renewal.   

Duties and Responsibilities 

All duties and responsibilities will be carried out in accordance with Barbra Schlifer Clinic's Mandate, Mission and Values. 

Research & Evaluation Support

  • Assist in evaluation and data analysis to support program goals and objectives
  • Support the implementation of outreach strategies to engage community members and stakeholders
  • Conduct outreach to establish new partnerships with community agencies for the Clinic’s delivery of legal services
  • Support partner training and administrative needs to develop protocols for client referrals
  • Assist the Legal and administrative team with tasks as assigned, ensuring smooth program operations
  • Assist in the delivery of orientation/training, supervision, mentoring and evaluation of Clinic’s law students and volunteers  
  • Collaborate with the Clinic team to gather and analyze data, contributing to the development of reports and presentations 

Coordination and Collaboration

  • Participate in meetings and trainings to stay informed about the Clinic’s legal services, project developments and best practices
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of service delivery through data-driven insights and feedback 

Administration and Other

  • Leverage existing partnerships to create service pathways to the Clinic and other relevant services for women from hidden, marginalised and underserved communities
  • Use data-driven insights to continuously improve service delivery
  • Collaborate with other Clinic teams as required
  • Participate in Legal Department and Clinic-wide meetings and trainings
  • Submit timely narrative and statistical progress reports as required
  • Engage in annual program planning and program evaluation where appropriate
  • Participate in ongoing supervision and periodic performance evaluations, as may be required by the Clinic   
  • Comply with all Clinic policies and procedures as revised from time to time   
  • Other related duties as assigned 

Key Relationships

  • This position will work with the Clinic’s Legal Department, Executive Office, Intake Team, and the Clinic’s Evaluator, as well as other departments as needed
  • This position reports to and is supervised by the Director of Legal Services or her designate   

Minimum Qualifications 

  • A degree in social work, psychology, or a related field. A master's degree is preferred
  • Proven experience in research, data analysis, and outreach activities, particularly in GBV contexts
  • Strong understanding of trauma-informed legal practice 
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills 
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team 
  • Commitment to social justice and the Clinic’s mission 
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience of working with marginalized and immigrant, refugee and non-status populations is preferred 
  • Strong understanding of the legal landscape related to GBV and criminalization issues 
  • Awareness of intersecting conditions that affect the experience of violence and trauma among a diverse clientele   
  • Demonstrated exceptional interpersonal skills and ability to interface in a purposeful, positive and productive manner with diverse justice system professionals, service providers and administrators in the courts and in the broader legal systems and with diverse stakeholders in the community at large
  • Demonstrated understanding of legal and social issues relating to domestic violence, social services or community development consistent with an intersectional feminist/anti-oppression analysis   
  • Commitment to working cooperatively in a woman-positive, multi-disciplinary environment  
  • Understanding of Immigration issues and migrant rights in the context of Family law is an asset  
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment when encountering difficult situations and in performing job responsibilities   
  • Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion 
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to engage diverse stakeholders 
  • French language skills will be considered a strong asset

Salary: $49,744 annually
