This is a fulltime union position scheduled to work 35 hours per week

DUTIES

  • Provide care support services to meet the needs of clients at the Senior Day Program.
  • Provide personal related care to client based on individual needs including toileting, lifting and transferring, feeding, food cutting, and mobility assistance.
  • Operate mobility devices (e.g. rollator, wheelchair, electric scooter) to aid in the lift/transfer of clients according to the established guidelines for the safe and proper usage of such equipment.
  • Escorting clients in and out of program site in a safe manner.
  • Assist with meal preparation, feeding, and monitoring dietary needs, ensuring that participants receive appropriate nutrition.
  • Assist clients in participating daily activities including gaming, exercise and socializing
  • Encourage socialization and engagement in recreational activities, fostering a sense of community among participants.
  • Conduct various tasks such as assisting with set up, cleaning and sterilizing equipment and maintaining equipment.
  • Support and respect clients’ independence, dignity, social, emotional and cultural wellbeing.
  • Ensure the safety and well-being of participants by adhering to health and safety regulations and responding to emergencies promptly.
  • Report to and assist program coordinator for issues and concerns related to clients’ care.
  • Collaborate with all members of the client care team.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Personal Support Worker Diploma/Certificate from an accredited Community College or other recognized educational institute.
  • Minimum 1 year of previous experience providing care to senior clients in a group setting.
  • Preference will be given to candidates who are fluent in Italian / Spanish.
  • Registration in good standing with the Ontario Personal Support Worker Registry, as may be required by the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the Long-Term Care Homes Act and Regulations in relation to personal care.
  • Ability to communicate with clients who are cognitively impaired and deal with responsive behaviors.
  • Certificate in Dementia Care or Certificate from Alzheimer’s Society for Dementia, Depression and Delirium is considered an asset.
  • Must have current WHMIS, First Aid training and Food Handling certificates (willingness to obtain).
  • Required to provide a valid Vulnerable Sector Screening (VSS) Police check. The VSS must have been completed within the past 6 months.
  • Familiar with and understands the Italian / Spanish culture.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of dementia and ability to provide client-centered care.
  • Ability to foster effective interpersonal relationships.
  • Ability to follow directions, guidelines, and policies and procedures.
  • Basic computer skills an asset.
