Location: Mississauga (in office, no hybrid/remote) 

Wages: $25.47/hour for 21 hours/week

This is a bargaining unit position.

Scope

We are seeking a highly motivated and adaptable Seniors Active Living Facilitator to join our dynamic team. The senior’s active living facilitator operates in a high-demand environment, requiring exceptional organizational skills, the ability to prioritize effectively, and a proactive approach to problem-solving.

The Seniors Active Living Facilitator is responsible for developing and delivering program activities, including wellness and social activities, targeting seniors from local ethnic groups of low-income and isolated seniors. The facilitator will engage community partners to implement recreational, educational, health, and social events. The facilitator is also responsible for recruiting senior participants, reaching out to house-bound and vulnerable seniors, providing individual needs assessments, connecting seniors to resources, and conducting regular follow-ups.

Responsibilities

  • Work collaboratively with Polycultural Seniors Hub program to deliver a full range of services
  • Organize a variety of activities for seniors that responds to their needs and interests
  • Arrange guest speakers, coaches for wellness, and social and recreational activities to keep seniors active and engaged
  • Develop and actively promote monthly schedule of activities
  • Work in collaboration with other organizations serving seniors and organize joint activities
  • Plan and facilitate intergenerational activities that foster meaningful connections between seniors and younger community members
  • Ensure a safe, comfortable, and welcoming environment for diverse group of seniors
  • Perform security reassurance checks, friendly visitations for isolated and home bound seniors, and connect seniors to local community and health related services
  • Participate in recruitment, training, and monitoring of volunteers
  • Administer surveys from participants for program evaluations
  • Maintain and expand client base through outreach and community presentations
  • Actively participate in professional development initiatives
  • Effectively track services in database and provide accurate reporting for manager
  • Must meet targets set by Programs Manager
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • Degree or diploma in Counselling, Community Service, or Social Work, and at least three (3) years experience working with diverse communities or a combination of experience and education that fulfills the requirements
  • Knowledge of local community services and ethno-specific programs in the Region of Peel
  • Experience with outreach, community development, and marketing programs and services
  • Familiarity with issues affecting various ethnic groups of seniors
  • Strong organizational skills to manage data and reporting
  • Experience and sensitivity in dealing with members of different cultural and racial backgrounds
  • Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule
  • A second language is an asset
  • Reliable transportation, valid driver’s license

Other requirements

  • A satisfactory Vulnerable Sector Police Check (completed when offer is made)
