Brampton Multicultural Community Centre (BMC) is a charity established in 1987 that provides settlement and social services to newcomers, immigrants and the larger community in the Peel Region. Our mandate and core business is to enable less advantaged individuals, families and groups in the community to reach their full potential, enhance their life skills, and create a better future. BMC has a variety of specialized programs that cater to specific demographics and focus on providing different services such as (Settlement, Mental Health, Youth Development, Employment, and Seniors Support) making BMC a one-stop-shop for needed services. The Seniors Support Worker will enhance older individuals' access to personalized programs, reducing social isolation, and promoting physical and mental well-being through a variety of engaging activities. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in community services, excellent organizational skills, and a passion for improving the lives of seniors.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Develop and implement a comprehensive curriculum that includes financial literacy, physical activities, arts & crafts, and sewing and cooking lessons.
• Organize and facilitate engaging cooking, sewing and chair yoga sessions, and nature walks.
• Organize and deliver informative workshops on topics related to seniors' mental and physical health, financial literacy, and healthy lifestyles.
• Promote a sense of community and belonging among participants through social interaction and personal growth activities.
• Ensure all activities align with the program’s priority of promoting engaging activities and physical exercises among older adults.
• Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of the program, making adjustments as needed to meet the needs and interests of participants.
• Address social isolation by creating an environment encouraging to social interaction and skill development.
• Assist in the operation of agency's programs & services including information updating, compiling monthly statistics, activity and outcome report submitted on a monthly, quarterly and yearly basis.
• Distribute promotional material to create awareness about BMC services, and locations.
• Evaluate the outcome of the program and the ability to do in-depth analysis.
• Any other duties related to this position.

QUALIFICATIONS/SKILLS

• Post-secondary education: Degree/Diploma in Social Work, Gerontology, Community Services, or a related field.
• Minimum of two (2) years relevant experience in program facilitation or a similar role, preferably in senior services or community programs.
• Knowledge of the immigration system, community services, resources and outreach practices, and issues related to aging and senior services.
• Ability to work independently and co-operatively, and a team player.
• Excellent interpersonal, organizational, communication, presentation and facilitation skills.
• Ability to work with diverse people and communities with awareness to socio-economic and cultural barriers.
• Capability to handle multiple priorities with ease and professionalism, able to work in a fast-paced environment with minimal supervision.
• Strong communication (oral and written), and computer skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook), Social Media (Facebook, X, LinkedIn, etc.) and Web based databases.
• Fluent in English and proficiency in a second language is a definite asset.
• Adaptive to flexible working hours including evenings and weekends as needed.
• Police Record Check for Vulnerable Sector is required as part of the hiring process.
• Must have own transportation, driver license and valid insurance to use your vehicle for job related travelling.

This position is shared with Muslim Community Service (MCS), with a 50/50 split
