About this Course


Creating Positive Spaces for LGBTQIA+ Newcomers Level 2 is a free, self-directed, online course that provides tactical and practical tools to address LGBTQIA+ newcomer issues and organizational change strategies in the settlement sector. PSI Level 1 course is recommended to be completed prior to registering for this course.

Upon completion of the course you will be able to:

  • Engage with issues of intersectionality to further develop critical thinking skills and build capacity
  • Strategize about resistance to change through various techniques, and confront overt/covert biases of co-workers and clients
  • Enhance organizational systems to embody best practices for working with SOGIESC immigrants and refugees

Criteria for Participation


This course is open to settlement workers and service providers who are working in or with the immigrant and refugee-serving sector across the province who are willing to:

  • Commit to approximately 2-4 hours of learning per week
  • Practice active participation through the program
  • Complete assignments within the given timeframe

At the successful completion of the entire e-course, you will receive a certification of completion from OCASI.
