The OCASI Mental Health Promotion Project (MHP) is pleased to invite you to a virtual workshop series facilitated by HF Care (formerly known as Hong Fook Mental Health Association):

Session 1: Essential Mental Health

This training focuses on strength-based, destigmatizing approaches to mental wellness. It explores how the migration journey, systemic barriers, and the intersection of multiple identities influence mental health. It provides practical skills for frontline workers to support clients in distress and encourage help-seeking.

Learning Objectives:

  • Articulate a holistic understanding of mental health within the broader determinants of health
  • Analyze mental health challenges through migration
  • Apply different frameworks to design protective, strengths-based interventions within their scope of practice
  • Integrate a trauma-informed approach, cultural humility, and destigmatizing practices
  • Demonstrate professional competencies for engaging individuals in distress
  • Reflect critically on self-awareness and bias through reflexive and grounding practices

Session 2: Putting Knowledge into Practice

This second workshop is an enhancement training designed for participants who have completed Essential Mental Health and wish to deepen their applied skills in supporting mental wellness within diverse community and workplace contexts.

Learning Objectives:

  • Integrate trauma-informed, culturally humble, destigmatizing, and reflexive lenses into everyday frontline interactions with clients
  • Recognize and respond to migration-related grief, loss, and adjustment stress
  • Practice reflexive use-of-self
  • Enhance cultural safety and equity in service delivery
  • Use grounding and emotional regulation techniques
