The Cross-Cultural Community Services Association (TCCSA) is a not-for-profit organization that aims to facilitate the well-being of diversified communities through social services. TCCSA is seeking supply childminders to support our LINC program by providing quality care for newcomer children at our York Centre in Markham. Successful candidates should be enthusiastic about teaching children and capable of making learning enjoyable and engaging for them.

Job Title: CNC Level 1 (Supply)

Unit Language and Skills Training 

Hours of Work: Each shift is 6.5 hours 8:45 a.m. to 3:45 p.m. Program runs Monday to Friday

Salary Range: $21.39 / hour

Responsibilities:

  • Follow Care for Newcomer Children (CNC) requirements as set out by CMAS
  • Under the direction of the Lead Childminder, assist in planning, supervising and implementing appropriate activities for children in accordance with written program philosophy
  • Welcome and interact with newcomer children and their parents
  • Provide activities and experiences that meet the individual developmental needs of children
  • Set up and take down equipment and other items used in the program, and perform all required housekeeping duties in the childminding space
  • Maintain records, including Attendance Form, Child Profile, and Session Management Form
  • Inspect CNC space for safety issues and seek corrective action according to procedures
  • Participate in professional development activities and attend staff meetings as required
  • Work with team members to create a positive environment

Skills and Abilities

  • Develop and implement daily activities that support and promote the development of newcomer children
  • Understanding and awareness of settlement issues and the concerns of newcomer children and parents
  • Engage children in activities that support a child-centred approach
  • Guide and assist children in the development of healthy eating, dressing and toilet habits
  • Assess the skills, abilities, interests and needs of children
  • Discuss children’s progress or concerns with parents and other staff members

Physical Requirements 

The job involves working with young children and includes lifting and participating in physical activities. It may also involve the supervision of children and physical activities indoors and outdoors.

Qualifications

  • Education – At least a one-year diploma in a child development program or a related field from a recognized academic institution
  • Experience working with children from toddler to school age
  • Effective communication skills (written and oral) in English
  • Ability to communicate in another language is an asset
  • Current first aid and CPR certification
  • Current proof of immunization and Tuberculosis status
  • A clear, mandatory Vulnerable Sector Screening is required
