PROGRAM: Canada Summer Jobs
POSITION: Employment Counsellor
REPORTS TO: Associate Manager, Employment Services
WORK HOURS: 35 hours per week
RATE OF PAY: $17.20 per hour
DURATION: 8 Weeks (June 23, 2025 to August 22, 2025)

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assists Employment Counsellors in their daily duties
- Provides support to program staff and job seekers
- Assist with client intake, registration, and follow-ups
- Provides information and orientation to clients on Dixie Bloor services and programs
- Researches the Internet for information relevant to job search and employment opportunities for clients
- Assists in the delivery of employment workshops, information sessions, and networking events
- Contacts clients about upcoming events and job fairs
- Maintains statistics for monthly reporting
- Assist staff with coverage for reception duties
SUPERVISION AND MENTORING PLANS:
- The Program Coordinator and Employment Counsellor will supervise participants.
- Participants will be introduced to the staff and an overview of the agency and the Employment Centre.
- Training will include Health and Safety, Conflict of Interest/Confidentiality, HR Policies, including inclusion and diversity.
- Participants will be oriented to the program features and equipment, intake and referral process, available resources, how to access resources, and reporting requirements.
- Participants will work with a staff member who will act as a mentor and coach.
- Participants will be given feedback to ensure that sufficient support is provided.
HEALTH AND SAFETY PRACTICES:
- Participant will be provided with the mandatory WHMIS training and will be oriented to HR Policies and Procedures.
- Full supervision will be provided, and a designated go-to senior staff will be assigned to provide additional support.
PARTICIPANT ELIGIBILITY
To be eligible, youth must:
· be between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of the employment*
· be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the employment**
· have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations.
*The youth must be 15 years of age at the beginning of the employment period.
The youth may be more than 30 years of age at the end of the employment period as long as the youth was 30 at the beginning of the employment period.
**International students are not eligible participants.
