Full-time, Temporary (8-week contract, Canada Summer Jobs)

Position Overview: The Child and Youth Worker will support Delta Family’s Kuumba Creative Summer Camp, working with children ages 6 to 13. This role focuses on delivering engaging, culturally responsive programming that supports identity development, creativity, and social connection.

Key Responsibilities :

  • Participate in pre-camp training and orientation
  • Support the planning and delivery of daily camp programming
  • Lead recreational, creative, and culturally relevant activities
  • Engage children in learning about Black/African culture and identity
  • Supervise participants and ensure a safe and inclusive environment
  • Respond to incidents, behavioural concerns, and parent inquiries
  • Prepare and maintain program materials and equipment
  • Support administrative and program coordination tasks
  • Build positive relationships with children, families, and staff
  • Attend team meetings and training sessions
  • Work from a culturally aware, anti-oppressive framework
  • Liaise with other Delta Family programs as needed
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

  • Between 15 and 30 years of age (Canada Summer Jobs eligibility)
  • Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or protected person, legally entitled to work in Canada
  • Experience working with children or youth (camp, recreation, or community programs preferred)
  • Passion for working with children and supporting positive development
  • Ability to plan, lead, and engage groups in recreational and structured activities
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to work with diverse ages and abilities
  • Commitment to equity, anti-oppression, and culturally responsive practice
  • Interest in child and youth development, education, or social services
  • Reliable, punctual, and able to work in a team environment
  • Ability to work outdoors and remain active throughout the day
  • Vulnerable Sector Check (required before start)
  • Emergency First Aid & CPR (asset)

Compensation: $17.60 per hour
