35 hours per week; required to work regular hours in evenings, Saturdays and some holidays

Salary Range:

$40,477- $44,244

Current Rate:

$22.24 per hour

Position Overview:

We are seeking a motivated and organized Program Assistant to support the Markham Cycles project in delivering a variety of operational, administrative, and community engagement activities. Assisting our Markham Cycles staff, the Program Assistant will be responsible for assisting with the day-to-day tasks of the project, helping to organize events, coordinating logistics, providing support for outreach efforts, and ensuring that all components of the program run smoothly. This role offers the opportunity to work in a dynamic, community-oriented environment that contributes directly to Markham’s sustainability and wellness goals.

 

 

Responsibilities:

  • Assist in planning and service delivery to youth and families that require support in cycling matters. 
  • Perform administrative duties and on-site support for programs and events, including preparation of rooms, cycling repairs/refurbishment, equipment and materials, registering clients, collecting feedback and evaluation questionnaires, post-event wrap up, etc.
  • Help organize and support community events, such as bike hub drop ins, bike safety workshops and group rides. This includes monitoring road safety for groups rides, booking venues, liaising with vendors, preparing event materials, and ensuring all logistics are in place.
  • Support program staff in monitoring day-to-day program expenditures
  • Support efforts to engage local communities through outreach, social media updates, promotional campaigns, and communications with local organizations, schools, and businesses.
  • Generate program promotional materials such as program flyers or promotional videos
  • Respond to clients enquires on programs and services in a professional and timely manner.
  • Collect and compile service statistics as required
  • Enter client/participant data into appropriate databases
  • Assist in managing bike inventory, coordinating maintenance schedules, and ensuring bike hubs are stocked and operational.
  • Assist in troubleshooting facilities related issues and negotiating with contractors
  • Work closely with the youth team, external partners, and local government representatives to ensure that program objectives are met.
  • Any other duties as assigned by the Manager

 

Qualifications:

  • College diploma in office administration, customer service or equivalent. Post-secondary education in environmental studies, urban planning, public health, or related fields is an asset.
  • Experience in serving youth and families a strong asset
  • Interest in cycling, sustainability, and community engagement.
  • Strong knowledge in bicycle repairs and road safety 
  • Previous experience in community program support or administrative role is preferred, especially in community outreach, transportation, or sustainability programs.
  • Proficiency in a secondary language is a strong asset 
  • Proficiency in MS Office products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, Outlook), experience in photo/image editing software an asset.
  • Experience with social media platforms and basic graphic design tools (e.g., Canva) is an asset.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong time management and organizational skills.
  • Self-starter, ability to work independently, attention to details and ability to multitask.
  • Strong problem-solving skills.
  • Commitment to be a team-player
  • Valid driver’s licence, use of vehicle and ability to travel within the Greater Toronto Area.
  • Satisfactory Vulnerable Sector Screening
  • Certificate of First Aid Training a strong asset.
