Are you passionate about community education, outreach, and supporting survivors of gender-based violence and older adults experiencing abuse?

The Assaulted Women's Helpline (AWHL) is seeking a Training, Resource and Outreach Worker to join our team. This blended position combines community outreach, public education, resource development, and frontline crisis intervention.

Working with both the Assaulted Women's Helpline and Seniors Safety Line, this role provides an opportunity to strengthen community awareness, build partnerships, develop resources, and provide direct support to individuals seeking help.

The successful candidate will deliver workshops and presentations, engage with community partners across Ontario, support resource development, and provide scheduled crisis line support through phone, text, and live chat.

About AWHL

The Assaulted Women's Helpline provides free, confidential, and anonymous crisis support, information, referrals, and safety planning to women and gender-diverse individuals experiencing gender-based violence across Ontario. The Seniors Safety Line provides specialized support to older adults experiencing abuse, neglect, isolation, or safety concerns.We are committed to trauma-informed, survivor-centred, culturally responsive, and anti-oppressive services.

Key Responsibilities

Training, Resource and Outreach
  • Develop and deliver workshops, presentations, and educational sessions for community groups, service providers, and partners.
  • Represent AWHL and the Seniors Safety Line at community events, conferences, and outreach activities.
  • Build relationships with community organizations, seniors' organizations, and service providers.
  • Develop and update educational materials, resources, and referral information.
  • Support staff, student, and volunteer training initiatives.
  • Track outreach activities and contribute to program evaluation and quality improvement.
  • Identify community needs, service gaps, and opportunities for program development.
Crisis Line Support
  • Provide scheduled crisis line coverage through telephone, text, and live chat.
  • Provide trauma-informed crisis intervention, emotional support, information, referrals, and advocacy.
  • Complete risk assessments and safety planning.
  • Maintain accurate and confidential documentation.
  • Participate in training, consultation, and continuous improvement activities.

Qualifications

Required
  • Post-secondary education in Social Work, Psychology, Counselling, Gerontology, Community Development, Adult Education, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum two (2) years of experience in community outreach, public education, crisis intervention, community development, or related human services.
  • Knowledge of gender-based violence, elder abuse, trauma-informed practice, anti-oppressive practice, and survivor-centred service delivery.
  • Experience facilitating presentations, workshops, or training sessions.
  • Strong communication, facilitation, organizational, and relationship-building skills.
  • Experience working with diverse communities.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and database/CRM systems (Salesforce considered an asset).
  • Fluency in English.
  • A valid Ontario driver's licence and access to a reliable vehicle are required for outreach events, presentations, meetings, and community activities.
Assets
  • Experience in violence against women, seniors' services, mental health, community development, or social services.
  • Experience supporting volunteers or student placements.
  • Additional language skills.

Compensation and Benefits

This is a unionized position working 35 hours per week.

Compensation is based on the duties being performed in accordance with the collective agreement:

  • Training, Resource and Outreach duties: $33.15 per hour
  • Crisis Line duties: $30.06 per hour

Placement on the applicable wage grid will be determined based on the collective agreement

A comprehensive benefits package is provided in accordance with the collective agreement.

Working Conditions

  • Full-time permanent position (35 hours/week).
  • Blended role combining Training, Resource and Outreach responsibilities with scheduled crisis line support.
  • Minimum seven (7) hours per week dedicated to crisis line coverage; additional crisis line hours may be assigned based on operational needs.
  • Occasional evenings and weekends may be required.
  • Travel throughout Ontario, including occasional overnight travel
  • Ability to transport outreach materials and equipment.
  • Must be legally entitled to work in Canada.
