Position Title: Youth Settlement Worker-Arabic Speaking
Job Type: Part-time (17.5 hours per week)
Location: Mississauga
Position Summary
The Youth Settlement Worker supports refugee and newcomer youth in their transition to life in Canada by providing culturally responsive settlement counseling, orientation, and engaging youth-centered programming. The role involves facilitating access to community resources, coordinating recreational and leadership programs, and addressing barriers to social and economic participation.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct needs assessments and provide personalized settlement counseling and orientation services for newcomer youth.
- Recruit youth participants for programs such as Homework Club and drop-in sessions.
- Organize and facilitate group activities including academic support, recreational events, leadership development, and civic engagement.
- Deliver information sessions and refer clients to services such as educational institutions, employment programs, volunteer opportunities, and recreational programs.
- Build and maintain relationships with community agencies to improve service coordination and ensure newcomer youth needs are met.
- Accompany clients to key appointments (e.g., school enrollment, government services).
- Provide translation and interpretation services to help clients access community supports.
- Maintain accurate client files, documentation, and statistical records in accordance with program and funder requirements.
- Identify service gaps and emerging needs among newcomer youth, and make recommendations to improve the delivery of youth settlement programs.
- Prepare funders’ reports and ensure timely reporting and data entry using systems such as OCMS.
- Participate in program evaluations and contribute to enhancements based on findings.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Organizational and Program Responsibilities

- Contribute to setting program goals and priorities and assist in the evaluation of services.
- Follow health and safety protocols in compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA).
- Perform other duties as assigned that support the program and organizational objectives.
Qualifications
Experience:
- Minimum of 1–3 years’ experience working with youth immigrants, refugees, and/or vulnerable youths.
- Demonstrates understanding of and experience working with refugees and youth with multiple barriers.
- Knowledge of and experience working with community service providers serving newcomers youth.
- Understanding of needs assessment and report writing skills.
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Experience in facilitating group workshops, presentations, or educational sessions.
- Demonstrated cultural competence and sensitivity when working with diverse populations.
Education and Skills:
- Post-secondary education in Social Work, Community Services, Immigration and Settlement Studies, or a related field; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and digital tools for data entry and reporting.
- Fluency in English and Arabic is required; proficiency in other languages relevant to the client base (e.g., Dari, Pashto, Farsi) is a strong asset.
Working Conditions
- Some travel is required in Peel, occasional evening/weekend work.
