Salary: $17.60 per hour (35 hours per week for 8 weeks only)

Scope

Plan, organize, and deliver youth programming that facilitates skills development, promotes health and well-being, team building, social connection and positive relations, and supports settlement and integration of newcomer youths.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assess clients' relevant skill strengths and needs
  • Plan and facilitate in-person and virtual activities for youth in areas such as arts, life and social skills, and leadership
  • Assist in the development and implementation of programs/services for youth that promotes resiliency
  • Encourage the participation of all youths accessing the agency's services
  • Establish healthy and supportive relationships with youth in accordance with expectations and policies of the agency
  • Provide activities that encourage respect for the values, customs, and traditions of diverse cultures
  • Be able to work within a diverse community and be culturally sensitive and inclusive
  • Ensure that all health and safety standards are met, and that operation of the program follows organizational policies, procedures, and requirements
  • Provide a safe, unbiased, and non-judgmental environment for clients
  • Complete necessary administrative responsibilities for registration, attendance, and daily activity reports
  • Assist in screening and directing phone calls to the appropriate staff
  • Provide information and referral services for service users as required
  • Promote programs and services offered by the organization
  • Prepare information brochures and packages for outreach

Qualifications

  • Applicants must be between the ages of 15 and 30 years of age (inclusive) at the start of employment, a Canadian Citizen, permanent resident, or person on whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act, and must be legally entitled to work according to the relevant provincial/territorial legislation and regulations
  • International students, and those who are in Canada on a work, youth, or visitor visa/permit are not eligible to apply
  • Post-secondary education (in progress or completed) in the following studies: Child and Youth Studies, Education, Community Services, Recreation, Social Work, Arts, Psychology, or other related filed
  • Valid First Aid/CPR certificate or willingness to obtain
  • Skills and ability to plan and organize activities for youths
  • Technical skills and ability to facilitate engaging online activities as needed
  • Commitment to diversity and inclusion, and demonstrated sensitivity to the needs of diverse newcomers
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and as a team member
  • Demonstrated ethical judgment and professional boundaries
  • Highly motivated, personable & well organized

Other requirements

  • A satisfactory Vulnerable Sector Police Check must be completed prior to commencing employment
