Ontario Releases $35 Million for Schools in Priority Communities

Ontario is allocating an additional $35 million for school boards in the priority communities of Ottawa, Peel, Toronto, and York as they confront higher rates of community transmission. The funding could be used to hire between 350 and 450 additional teachers, about 600 additional custodians, or purchase up to 70,000 additional technological devices for students to aid online learning. This funding will be available to the following 12 school boards to support the implementation of increased physical distancing in schools and enhancing access to remote learning.

$9.0M investment for Toronto District School Board would support:

• The hiring of between 90 and 120 teachers; or
• The hiring of more than 150 additional custodians; or
• The purchase of nearly 18,000 technological devices for students.

$5.8M investment for Peel District School Board would support:

• The hiring of between 55 and 75 teachers; or
• The hiring of more than 100 additional custodians; or
• The purchase of more than 11,600 technological devices for students.

$4.8M investment for York Region District School Board would support:

• The hiring of between 45 and 65 teachers; or
• The hiring of more than 80 additional custodians; or
• The purchase of over 9,500 technological devices for students.

$3.4M investment for Toronto Catholic District School Board would support:

• The hiring of between 30 and 45 teachers; or
• The hiring of about 60 additional custodians; or
• The purchase of nearly 6,800 technological devices for students.

$2.9M investment for Dufferin-Peel Catholic District School Board would support:

• The hiring of between 25 and 40 teachers; or
• The hiring of about 50 additional custodians; or
• The purchase of nearly 5,800 technological devices for students.

$2.8M investment for Ottawa-Carleton District School Board would support:

• The hiring of between 25 and 40 teachers; or
• The hiring of about 50 additional custodians; or
• The purchase of about 5,600 technological devices for students.

$2.0M investment for York Catholic District School Board would support:

• The hiring of between 20 and 30 teachers; or
• The hiring of more than 30 additional custodians; or
• The purchase of nearly 4,000 technological devices for students.

$1.7M investment for Ottawa Catholic District School Board would support:

• The hiring of between 15 and 25 teachers; or
• The hiring of about 30 additional custodians; or
• The purchase of about 3,500 technological devices for students.

$0.9M investment for Conseil des écoles catholiques du Centre-Est would support:

• The hiring of about 10 teachers; or
• The hiring of nearly 20 additional custodians; or
• The purchase of nearly 2,000 technological devices for students.

$0.6M investment for Conseil des écoles publiques de l'Est de l'Ontario would support:

• The hiring of more than 5 teachers; or
• The hiring of about 10 additional custodians; or
• The purchase of more than 1,100 technological devices for students.

$0.6M investment for Conseil scolaire catholique MonAvenir would support:

• The hiring of more than 5 teachers; or
• The hiring of about 10 additional custodians; or
• The purchase of more than 1,100 technological devices for students.

$0.5M investment for Conseil scolaire Viamonde would support:

• The hiring of more than 5 teachers; or
• The hiring of about 10 additional custodians; or
• The purchase of almost 1,100 technological devices for students.
