Scope
Under the supervision of and training and support from the Program Coordinator, Home Instruction for Parents of Preschool Youngsters (HIPPY), the Childcare Worker (CNC) visits the homes of newcomer mothers with children ranging in age from 3- to 5-years-old. During home visits, the CNC worker will deliver the HIPPY program to mothers, help mothers teach their 3- to 5-year-old children, and prepare them for school. During home visits, the CNC worker delivers weekly activity packets and books to parents, demonstrating how to conduct daily activities with their children to build cognitive, social, and emotional skills. The CNC Worker will also assist mothers of newcomer children to develop their own career plan to prepare for future employment and/or educational opportunities.
Responsibilities
The CNC HIPPY Home Visitor is responsible for:
- Attending weekly role-play training
- Making weekly visits (make-up visits if necessary) to participating families for purpose of role-playing
- Participating in the planning and execution of group meetings, which includes role-playing and facilitating enrichment activities
- Participating in professional development training
- Keeping Coordinator informed of child/family progress and any familial issues and concerns as they rise
- Completing and submitting in a timely fashion all reports and other documentation as required by the HIPPY Office
- Participating in all sponsored HIPPY activities (e.g., field trips, graduations, award ceremonies)
- Assisting in maintaining an efficient record keeping system of program operations and participating families by entering data into the ETO system

Qualifications
- Early Childhood Education Level 2 certificate
- Ontario College of Early Childhood Educators (ECE) membership in good standing
- Minimum 1 year of childcare work experience in the community with families from diverse backgrounds
- Fluency in Arabic is required
- Familiarity with issues facing newcomers in Canadian urban setting and systemic barriers facing integration in education, social, cultural, and economic aspects of Canadian life
- Excellent interpersonal, cross-cultural, written, and verbal communication
- Ability to work flexible schedules as needed
- Reliable transportation, valid driver’s license
Other requirements
- A satisfactory Vulnerable Sector Police Check (completed when offer is made)
